Alberta Health Services promotes wellness and provides medical care for Canadians in the province of Alberta. At SORCe, Alberta Health Services provides mental health and addictions programming, including indigenous specific supports.

Street Mental Health Team (SMHT) – Alberta Health Services

How services are provided:

Walk ins Tuesdays and Thursdays 9AM-12PM

The SMHT team provides mental health support for vulnerable homeless and newly housed individuals who are not connected with other mental health services. Outreach mental health service for homeless and newly housed people who are not connected with other mental health services within the community.

  •     SMHT provides psychosocial assessment and support, mental health assessments, specialist and community referrals, short-term mental health skills building, and short term mental-health-focused case management.

  • ·        Services are available by self-referral at SORCe. 

  • ·        This program has consulting psychiatry and can make referrals to other programs as needed.

  • ·        The team provides a psycho-educational group called the Wellness Exchange. (See below for more information.)

Referrals: Agency referrals can be sent to SMHT.Calgary@ahs.ca.  Referrals are triaged regularly throughout the week.  

 Wellness Exchange (SMHT) – Alberta Health Services

Group runs in 5-week increments on Tuesdays at 11:00 am. See posters at SORCe for details on current and upcoming sessions. 

Wellness Exchange is a resilience-building group curriculum that teaches a series of skills that help individuals cope with stress and adversity while promoting positive mental health and well-being. The goal is to help individuals increase effective coping, communication, self-advocacy, and basic life skills through an action-oriented approach


Addictions

Addiction services includes short-term outpatient treatment from an addiction counselor. Providing non-medical treatment for adults who are experiencing problems related to their use of alcohol, drugs, or gambling addiction. Services for those who are concerned about someone else's use are also offered. Addiction treatment services can include, short-term outpatient counselling, referral support, education, skill building, and support group programs. All programs and services are voluntary, confidential, and free of charge.

Availability: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00-4:00, closed from 12:00-1:00

TEE Time

A support group with a harm reduction focus. Participants do not have to be abstinent to attend. The group provides information and support, about substance use and mental health. The focus of the group is to increase awareness to support folks in reaching their goals and living a healthy lifestyle. Session topics include: Addiction, Thinking about Change, Safety, Stress, Triggers, Boredom, Anger, Depression, Anxiety, Guilt and Shame, Boundaries, and Quitting Smoking
